Creating a concept of a Corporate Wiki

Hislop (2004) states that 'knowledge sharing in this context [added: when sharing knowledge across sociocultural borders] involves an active process of perspective-making whereby the knowledge of others is understood in relation to a person's existing values'

You will notice the 'Web' metaphor that is so very important in order to understand the core Wiki concept. It is important to know and recognize that wiki tools are build in order to help people to produce interwoven texts, called hypertext.

For clarification purpose it might help to differentiate between 'wiki', 'Wiki', and 'WikiWeb'. A wiki is the actual software, also commonly called wiki engine (e.g. wiki, mediawiki, wackowiki, confluence), a tool such as an unused 'swiss pocket knife' (Döbeli Honegger). The term Wiki is referring to shared artefacts and constructions, the design and underlying principles which build the core Wiki concept, that all WikiWebs possess. A WikiWeb is a unique work environment and can be characterized by additional specific 'utilization principles' related to the actual software and the interests of the people using them. They are open 'swiss pocket knifes' in the hands of the WikiWeb community in the state of doing something with it – constantly metamorphing content, extensions and core modules. Subsequently the terms will be differentiated in this way.

«concept
1556, from M.L. conceptum “draft, abstract,” in L. "(a thing) conceived,” from pp. of concipere “to take in” (see conceive). In some 16c. cases a refashioning of conceit (perhaps to avoid negative connotations); conception in the womb sense was c.1300.

conceive
c.1280, from stem of O.Fr. conceveir, from L. concipere (pp. conceptus) “to take in and hold,” from com- intensive prefix + comb. form of capere “to take,” from PIE *kap- “to grasp” (see capable). Originally «take (seed) into the womb, become pregnant,” sense of “take into the mind” is from c.1340.

conceit
c.1374, from conceiven (see conceive). An Eng. formation based on deceit and receipt. Sense evolved from “something formed in the mind,” to “fanciful or witty notion” (1513), to “vanity” (1605) through shortening of self-conceit (1588). Conceited “having an overweening opinion of oneself” is from 1597.» – externer LinkSource
